My artistic journey…
I believe art is created to be shared, so I invite you to enjoy my creative journey, the inspiration, experimentation and process, the exhibited works and, ultimately, the art finding its place in the world. The only thing you won’t see is the angst along the way, at least not here anyway.
Creativity and design have been woven through my life for as long as I can remember. Beginning my career as a designer in the advertising world in New Zealand, and later spending more than two decades in Sydney running our own interior design business. I’ve developed a strong instinct for composition, colour and aesthetics, alongside a desire to explore and express ideas that have meaning beyond the purely visual. Now, as I return to New Zealand, I bring with me the experiences and influences gathered along the way, and a continuing curiosity about where my creativity might lead next...
For more than 20 years I have worked as a mixed-media artist, exhibiting and selling my work in Australia and internationally, while also creating commissioned pieces for private clients. Along the way, I continued my formal art studies part-time, completing a Diploma of Fine Arts while balancing work and family life. Whenever I could, I would retreat to my studio, my creative space to experiment, reflect and simply be…
My practice is inspired by both nature and human nature, and ultimately our connection with both. I’m interested in creating authentic and meaningful work that goes beyond the aesthetic; work that evokes feeling, contemplation and perhaps a moment of recognition in the viewer.
My yoga and meditation practice has also become intrinsically connected to the way I create. I try to paint from a place of equanimity and mindful flow, allowing intuition, experimentation and the meditative process itself to guide the work. I believe that abundance begins with a positive mindset, trusting that we have enough, and that we are enough. My ongoing challenge, and intention, is to carry that same sense of presence and balance beyond the mat and the studio, and into everyday life.
Ultimately, creativity is something I hope to use not only for my own expression, but to give back, create connection and bring a little more joy and wellbeing into the lives of others.
This website is a window into that continuing journey…
